The New York Knicks have had a great season so far, with a record of 21-8 without power forward Amar’e Stoudemire. The Knicks have been led by Carmelo Anthony, who is averaging 28.5 points per game.
Despite a tough loss to the Lakers on Christmas day, the Knicks came back strong with a 99-97 win against the Suns without Carmelo. J.R. Smith dropped 27 points, and hit a fade away buzzer-beater to give the Knicks the win.
It isn’t surprising that the Knicks are playing so well, given the talent they have. However, what has made them click into a hot streak?
Could it be the absence of Stoudemire? Or is it the addition of Jason Kidd, Raymond Felton, and Marcus Camby?
Maybe a combination of both, but I can assume that most Knicks fans are not looking forward to Amar’e Stoudemire’s return. Last year, with Stoudemire, the Knicks averaged less points per game than they do now without him.
Many ESPN talk shows have discussed the possible negative effects of Stoudemire’s return, and as a Knick fan, I hope Amar’e can prove them wrong. But for now, the Knicks are one of the top teams in the NBA, and definitely a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference.

It was totally fresh! As a long suffering Knick fan, whose closest brush with a title faded along with an errant John Starks jumper in game 6 of the 1994 NBA Finals, I too am excited about this team. As for Amar’e (and Shumpert for that matter), I think they will need to fit in for this team to be deep enough to contend with the Heat, Thunder, Spurs, etc. Not going to win a title with Ron Brewer starting at guard or needing to rely on Kurt Thomas or Marcus Camby at power forward.

Great work. Very adult and incisive. I think the difference is Kidd and he can make Amar’e better. With Boston playing on old legs and Deron Williams having trouble with the Nets’ offensive setup the Knicks should be on top come March.

i THINK YOU NAILED IT. When Stoudemire comes back, if he has anything left, he will only help the Knicks. He is a great athlete and he can be the difference for the Knicks to get to the finals. It is going to be the Knicks and Miami in the East Division Finals and once you get there who knows what can happen. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to more blogs.

What about Sheed? He’s playing great after the long layoff. The key is Melo. He’s committed to defense and being a team player. If that lasts, Amar’e’s return should only be positive and it will be go ny go ny go to the NBA Finals.
